- Although this is the last newsletter of the season, the club will still be doing things-please check in on the website and message forums!

- New York State is trying to use our money to keep the state solvent.  Your registration money (less $10 for DMV admin costs) goes to the state trail fund which is supposed to be used to reimburse clubs throughout the state for trail maintenance and grooming.  The state plans to take One Million dollars per year for five years from our Trail Fund to use in the ‘General Fund’!  Does this offend you?

-        Your help is required to make sure this doesn’t happen.  Please contact your Senator, Assemblyperson and the Governor.  Suggested wording and example letters can be found at:  www.nysnowmobiler.com.

- If we don’t let our government know what they are doing is wrong,

They will continue to spend money that doesn’t belong to them and/or money they don’t have.

-  Groomer Barn Update:  We’ve installed a new outside outlet for the second groomer and have re-insulated the back wall where the 2nd door was to be installed.  Additionally, Door to trail sign room has been insulated and weather-stripped.  Future plans include attic insulation and replacements of sofets.  Anyone with access to materials or who is willing to help, please call Herb t 523-1242.

- The groomer crew is working on de-tracking and replacing the tracks on the BR-60+.  Once completed, this Groomer will be put up for sale.  We have an opportunity to purchase another BR-160 and are also working on grants to purchase a new unit.  If you can help with repair work, please call Dave Jowdy at 628-2379.  If you have experience at Grant Writing, please call Gary at 807-7002.

- March 27th at 2:00 p.m. is the Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Shawnee Fire Hall and is open to kids of all ages.  We need some help to make this happen-volunteers are needed at 12:00 p.m.  If you can help out or have questions, please call Stacy Menard at 799-9071.

- We will host our 3rd Annual Landowner’s Appreciation Dinner on April 23rd at the Shawnee Fire Hall (Drinks at 5:00, Dinner at 6:00).  Come help us say thank you to our landowners-the people that make the trail system possible for us.  We will have a wonderful dinner of ‘Turkey and all the Fixin’s’ cooked and served by the Shawnee Ladies’ Auxiliary, lots of door prizes and an opportunity to spend some time with our landowners and club members.  Member cost is $10 per person-landowners free.  Reservations are required by April 18th; Call Gary at 731-1719 to reserve seats.

- The Shawnee Fire Company will be holding their annual Field Days June 24-26.  We, as a club, have always supported the Fire Company by handling the cooking on Thursday and Friday nights and all day Saturday.  We hope we can depend on you to join with other club members to help out on this!  Please call Pete at 731-9810 to volunteer or sign up at the club meeting(s).

-  Super Raffle ticket stubs and money should be turned in at the March or April club meetings.  If you can’t make the meeting(s) or need more tickets, please call Gary at 731-1719.

-  Just a reminder-do not ride off trail-our landowners allow us to use certain parts of their property for snowmobile trails-this is not license to ride anywhere you please just because the snow looks nicer.  Many trails are being closed across New York State due to people on sleds trespassing by riding off trail.

-  Would you like to become a groomer operator?  We are looking for people that would be willing to help maintain our trails.  Interested members should have good mechanical abilities and a working knowledge of equipment operation.  Grooming of the trails is typically performed at night, throughout the week, when traffic on the trails is at a minimum.  Operators also assist in groomer maintenance/repairs.

For training information, please contact Gary Broderick at 807-7002.
