Welcome Back – It’s been another interesting year, though it’s time to start thinking
about our favorite season: WINTER!!!!
Now is a great time to renew your membership and your registration(s)! We are
happy to have you as a member, but we also encourage you to join clubs wherever
you ride – you can join as many as you’d like-the first club costs $30, then $24 for
each additional club. Joining gets much needed funds to the club much faster than
trail grant money (derived from your registration(s). You can join/renew at club
meetings or go to Hebeler Sales and Service and join there (these two methods save
us credit card fees and saves you a $1 service fee). You can also join by going to
https://membership.nysnowmobiler.com/clubs/0890 (joining via the online system
includes a $1 Service Fee). If you need help with the system, call Gary at 807-7002.
While renewing, please consider making a donation to the NYSSA Trail Defender
Fund. This fund is established to help clubs fight for access to trails throughout the
state and is solely used for that purpose. Keeping trails open for us and our
children is worth a few bucks. You can make a donation in person at any club
meeting or you can select the Trail Defender ‘donation’ on NYSSA’s online
membership site while renewing your membership or you can donate here:
http://nysnowmobiler.com/donate-to-the-trail-defender-2/.
At our General Membership meeting, we will be discussing and deciding the clubs
position on some statewide initiatives that will be voted on at the upcoming
NYSSA/SLEDNY Annual Business meeting on October 2nd at the OnCenter in
Syracuse. If approved, these will be entered into Legislation that could not go into
effect until at least the 2022-23 season:

season:
-A registration fee increase from $45 to $65 for members and from $100 to $135 for
non-members. This is the first increase in over 16 years which will add approx. $2M to
the state Snowmobile Trail Development Fund to be returned to clubs all over New York
State. Also adding a Vintage Sled at $15 per registration in.
-Placing a limit of $300K or $500K on money held back for state snowmobile projects by
OPRHP and/or DEC. The law currently allows for use of up to 30% of the funds available
in the Snowmobile Trail Development Fund.
-Grant per mile for us would be $336 per mile minimum, plus whatever additional funds
(would be distributed based on all clubs over 100% costs, would be distributed evenly by
percentage of available funds).
-Establishing a hard rate of $225 per mile for trail building, groomer hours in addition,
plus major projects, including emergencies, re-routes and planned major projects. This
will allow clubs to receive more than 100% of the traditional Grant amount, based on
available money in the trail fund.
-Lowering the documentation requirements and having the county sponsor as the
certification authority, enabling a guaranteed payment of 70% of funds in November
of each year and the 30% Plus additional funds paid out in August of each year.
These new initiatives will affect the costs and how we do business for many years into
the future. These initiatives will be discussed at the Annual business meeting mentioned
above. If you are interested in having your voice heard, please contact us to become a
delegate. The cost of this meeting is $15 per person (which will be covered by the club) and
includes the Awards Luncheon (where our own Lonnie Daigler will be awarded the 2021
John Albert/Ed Dutcher Most Valuable Snowmobiler of the Year Award). Admittance
includes a free ticket to the Big East Powersports Show being held down the road at the
Fairgrounds the same weekend. More info available here: https://nysnowmobiler.com/
membership/sledny-forum/.
Do you have a child that wants to ride? If they are age 10 or older, they need to attend
an NYS Snowmobile Safety Course. We will be holding our annual free 1 Day course on
December 11th at the Shawnee Fire Hall. We always encourage parents to attend with
their children. For reservations and information, please contact Rodger at 731-2174.
Want to help out on the trails? Trail Building–Call Brent 523-2320/Pete at 628-4841. We
always need volunteers to help make our trails possible. You can meet and talk to trail
captains at any of our club meetings!
We are planning to have our annual Christmas Party Meeting (COVID permitting) on
December 6th at the Shawnee Fire Hall – please bring a dish to pass!
