Well, it was a great start, as we write this, we are hoping the season will pick back up! That being said, we’d like to welcome all our new members and many returning members! We are a totally volunteer club and hope you will join us in some of the many things we do, as snowmobiler! If you have ideas, please feel free to give the President a call at 807-7002.
While we were off to a good start in December and January, we did have some issues. Our older groomer, the BR-160 busted a track. We’d like to thank all the volunteers that came out and helped load the groomer on a flatbed and to those who helped down tearing apart the old track and salvaging the grouser bars and building up the new track too. A lot of work goes into maintaining these groomer units – We’d like to thank Herb Stephenson and Paul Prior for their leadership in gettin’ ‘er done! There is not enough space here to thank all those that helped – please know we all appreciate it!
Our trail, C-4B that runs from the east side of Campbell Blvd. (Across from Brauers) to Ship-N-Shore was re-routed last year. This year, we found a logging operation had made a mess of the trail just north of Lovers Lane (on the canal). We were able to get a groomer through there in early January, though it is an extremely rough trail-please use caution.
Our annual Club Sno-Drags are scheduled for January 27th. Come out and Join Us! This is a fun even, open to members only at no cost to you. Race track is on our Grass Drag track at the Firehall. We will have starting line lights and a groomer to clean up the track. We provide grill, burgers, dogs and the like along with coffee and hot cocoa. There are no prizes besides bragging rights. As with all events, we can use some help. If you can, please call Lonnie at 731-5128.
Currently, we have a Club Dice Run Scheduled for February 10th (Note: Date was corrected from 2/18 to 2/10). Please put this on your calendar-come and have some fun with other club members. As in any event, we need help to make it happen-all www.snochiefs.net
Newsletter Date: Spring 2017 2
our sponsors want the Dice Run to stop at their businesses. If you can lend a hand, please call Rodney at 628-0731.
We are planning a Club Trip to North Bay, Ontario, leaving on Febraury 11th and doing day rides while there. If you are interested, please come to the February meeting for more information.
The Club Annual Ham/Meat Raffle will be held on March 10th at the Shawnee VFC. We are selling tickets for the Spring Grill Raffle right now-prizes, which include a Weber Stainless Grill, and Electric Meat Smoker and a cooler filled with meat, will be drawn that night along with all the regular meat package and ham giveaways that night! Come on out and bring your friends, we will have free bear and pop, snacks and will be selling pizza! It’s always a good time! For tickets or to volunteer, please come to a meeting or contact Lonnie at 731-5128.
Grass Drags: As always, we need as many volunteers as possible to make the Grass Drag Event run smoothly. Please consider coming out on September 22nd, 2018 – We cover the costs of lunch and provide dinner at the ‘after’ party. This is our largest fundraiser of the year and everyone has fun at this event. We also need help the 3 days prior for the ‘build’ and the day after for teardown. For more information about meetings and volunteering, please check our page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Shawnee-Sno-Chiefs-20th-Annual-Grass-Drags-1900286380286648/. If you want more info, please call Gary at 807-7002.
To join the club, please come to a meeting or go to Hebeler’s Sales and Service and join there (these two methods save us credit card fees). You can also join by going to https://membership.nysnowmobiler.com/clubs/0890 (joining via the online system includes a $1 Service Fee) If you need help with the system, call Gary at 807-7002.
Want to help out on the trails? We will be tearing down in the springtime. This is a great way to get to know the trails and meet some of your fellow club members. We have heard from several people about possible new trails-several things go into making that happen. To learn more, please call Erick at 545-5576.
Do you like smooth trails? Know how they get that way? Come and be part of our great reputation for smooth trails! We really need volunteers to help with Groomer Maintenance, Groomer Operation and Barn Upkeep – as we’ve lost some of our operators and maintainers. Mechanical abilities are a plus, but we will help teach anyone interested. If you have some time and/or experience, would like to help out www.snochiefs.net
